Storm Trooper Redesign
Part of an ongoing personal project.
This is the first installment in an ongoing personal project I have decided to tackle. Im taking on the visual world and concepts of Star Wars 7 for a few reasons. Mainly because I, like many others, loved the originals and the wait to see what the film will be is far too long. Im also taking this on because I have always had massive respect for the concept artists of these types of films. It gives me a chance to learn new things and design in a new medium.
For my first piece, I wanted to evolve the Storm Trooper. An iconic character in the film and arguably one of the coolest. Badass helmet. Black and white.
That being said, I always felt the armor looked like white plastic sheeting. And these guys were as dumb as rocks and couldn't hit a thing with their rifles.
I tried to keep the iconic look but make it more modern and sturdy. Make it look like it can take a few shots but be flexible enough to move around quickly. I also noticed how the Empire was portrayed as shiny and smooth while the Rebels were always scuffed, chipped and dirty. I kept the trooper spotless for that reason.
Another major part of the soldier is the weapon system. This is a quick mockup of a modular rifle system. I purposely kept it pretty classic and not too sci-fi. The Star Wars weapons were always portrayed with real sturdy metal and nothing was ever too smooth or futuristic.
