I focus on interactive and concept visualization for brands across many industries.
I live in Illinois, about 50 miles west of Chicago. I began my career in design about 15 years ago working primarily with advertising agencies and design firms big and small. As I progressed through the ranks, from Junior Designer (for the record, I firmly believe that nobody should have "Junior" in their title) to Creative Director and beyond, I began to notice something peculiar. The things that made me successful and the things that made me happy were no longer happening. I was no longer making things. I was no longer creating. I was busy writing emails and attending more and more meetings. I was no longer an artist, I was living in a Dilbert comic. I wanted to find a way to advance my career and still be able to be a craftsman.
So with my second child on the way, I quit my job and started my own company.
I found a brilliant and strange partner and together we called it Material Group. We grew the company to 23 full time people tucked into a beautiful loft space in the West Loop of Chicago. It was the most amazing experience of my short career. We designed and built as much as we could and we kept a fully stocked liquor bar on the first floor. We sold the company a little over a year ago and now I begin another chapter. The only thing that remains the same is my intent to keep making things.
I am not after awards or money. The only thing I am hellbent on is working on projects with kind and smart people that teach me new things and take me new places. Simple as that.
This is about the most professional image I have of myself.
